Keyboard shortcuts can make it much faster to create designs. What would we do without copy and paste keyboard shortcuts? Or undo and redo?
You can find a list of all the Keyboard shortcuts in Penpot from the main Menu under help and info. Or by pressing the keyboard’s question mark as a shortcut key.
If I had statistics on my most used keyboard shortcuts, they would be… (bearing in mind I’m using macOS. For Linux or Windows users, you’d use Control instead of Command)
- Copy - Command C
- Paste - Command V
- Duplicate - Command D
- Copy layer properties - Shift Command C
- Paste layer properties - Shift Command V
- Group layers - Command G
- Create a component - Command K
- And detach a component - Shift Command K
- Command + for zooming in
- Command - for zooming out
- And the enter key for editing text on a text layer
- Backslash for hiding Penpot’s UI so you get loads of canvas space
- F for focusing on the layer.
This is really handy if you’re somewhere else on the canvas, you select the layer in the layers list and F - boom you’ve got that layer in your sights with no distractions.
