The demo file features the magazine mockup required for the assignment. Download the .penpot file and import the file into Penpot to get started.
If you completed the earlier assignment creating typography for the magazine/news article, you can continue working on the same design. You can either use the branding colors from the file above, or choose a set of three colors that better fit your magazine/newspaper’s theme.
Design project specification: Magazine/news article
Project overview
Design the color palette for your magazine or news article. Use the branding colors in the Penpot file to guide your palette.
If you completed the earlier assignment creating typography for the magazine/news article, you can continue working on the same design, or you can choose to work from the demo file included in the Resources section.
We will continue to work on this article design in the next unit, so try to focus only on the color. You’ll have the opportunity to make other design changes later!
Design requirements
- Use the branding colors in the Penpot file as a starting point for your color palette. You do not have to use these exact colors in your design, but the colors in the final design should be recognisable as related to the brand colors.
- Edit the existing colors in the Assets panel to create an appropriate look and feel that enhances the readability of the article.
- You can edit the colors, and add new colors if required.
Technical specifications
Assets:
All colors in the design file must use a color asset in the Assets panel to make design collaboration and the development process easier.
Content:
All content must be preserved, staying the same for your final design.
Typography and layout:
All the existing typography and layout must be preserved, staying the same for your final design.
Design approach
Create a color palette the fits the theme of the newspaper/magazine and utilizes the brand colors. You can choose from a palette based on one color, or multiple colors. You can also create new colors if necessary.
To make your design file more useful for collaboration, you can document your color palette on a separate page, with further annotations for recommended use. This is an optional extra task for the assignment.
Deliverables
A Penpot file with organized layers and naming conventions, using color assets.
